Then you're gonna want to listen up to this episode, because I'm going to talk about the three ways that you can be your best. And I've learned these from Kevin Eastman. He is a former NBA championship coach.

Hello, lovely dynamic women. Welcome to the Dynamic Women podcast. I am Diane Rolston, your host. And today yeah, I'm gonna talk about the three different ways that you can be the best or your best.

Diane Rolston:

And this is what I learned from recently hearing just last week, Kevin Eastman. Now let me tell you a little bit more about Kevin. And I'm going to go into these three different like mic drop moments that he had, that for me, they're gonna be the things that I'm implementing in my business in the next little while. So listen up. But first, let me tell you who Kevin Eastman is, he's a really cool guy. First of all, like, if you don't even like sports, you still are gonna love him, you're really gonna love him, because he is such a funny guy, and my gosh, so inspirational, knowledgeable and super humble as well. So he was the Assistant Coach to Head Coach Doc Rivers for nine years with the Boston Celtics, and they won the NBA World Championship. And he was four years with the Los Angeles Clippers for all so for all my sports fans, now, you know, but he also served as the vice president of basketball operations for the Clippers. And for over 10 years, he worked with Nike, as the National Director of Nike's skill development for the elite high school and college players. Because he's an he isn't like amazing, amazing coach, he also owns his own business. And he's a co-founder of Coaching U Live and founder of Elite Training Camps for Coaches, both of which were created as a way to give back to the game that has been so important part of his life. And so he does public speaking engagements. He's a fee paid speaker, he does keynotes, you can check everything out on his on his website, kevineastman.net. He's very inspirational.

Diane Rolston:

So let me get to the three things. There were so many, so many golden nuggets, but I can talk today about the three, that I'm going to be implementing right away, and maybe things that I've been implementing, but they just like reinforce that. And I hope that these are things that you're going to want to bring into your life, your business so that you can be the best. And where does that be the best come from? Well, he has a book that is called Why The Best Are The Best, great book. I've got a copy of it that he autographed. And so these three things, though, are from the talk that he gave to the mastermind group that I was a part of.

Diane Rolston:

So the first one is, I'm going to speak directly to you, okay. And I'm not going to say all the cool things that he said with it, I'm going to put into play kind of some of the things that I'm thinking about feeling about in what he said. So the first one is remind yourself, there's more inside of you. Remind yourself, there's more inside of you. And it calls us the capability gap. And maybe you've been feeling it recently, maybe you've been feeling like I know there's more I know I can do more, I know I can be more. And I have to also say that the be more peace doesn't mean that you're not enough. It's just that you know, you can get to that next level, that next level of success, just like if you were in sports, right, you're going to be playing in like the little leagues or the smaller leagues, you're maybe going to be able to get to like the college level varsity level. And then maybe you move into like semi pro or a pro, right. So there's levels and your, your best self at each of those stages. But the problem is something that holds people back from reaching their full potential, it's maybe how you've heard it before, what's holding them back, maybe it's a lack of confidence, maybe it's a lack of clarity about where they're going, or what they need to do. And it can also be just a lack of action. And so these are the three pieces that I'd love for you to reflect on. I've got lots of other podcasts and trainings and things and blogs on clarity, confidence and action. And so I'm wondering is one of these things the piece for you that would be missing that will be stopping you from getting to your full potential. So that capability gap from where you are to where you could be, we want to move through that faster. And one of the ways that I get through this is by having my own coaches. Now it could be sports coaches, because I still play soccer. It could be physical in another way like my Pilates instructor. It can also be in a business coach, a life coach, consultant, advisor, whatever it may be, and having someone believe in you. One, help you to build up that confidence, tell you what you need to get better to move to that next piece and believing in you. So of that on the bits, pieces that I talked through, I'm curious, what will help you to reduce the capability gap, what will help you to get to that place of I am actually being my best. Pick a moment. Pause this if you need to, to be able to come up with an answer for that.

Diane Rolston:

So the second one is, you get your rep through your reps. So the full explanation or the sorry, the full meaning of that is you get your reputation through your repetitions, you get your rep through your reps, do you see that? So think of something that you are doing in your life in building your craft. So if you're really good at graphic design, and you're like doing it over and over, and day after day, after day after day, and people are seeing your work out there, they start to see the repetition of what you're doing, they start to see the consistency of what you're putting out there. Maybe you are a hairstylist, or you are a home designer. And so as you do have more clients and do more hair or more homes, or whatever it may be, you're getting better and better and better and better. And so you start to get a reputation for the work you've put out. So if you're a speaker, and you're doing more talks, whether they be paid or not, you're doing more and more and more, and the repetition of that not only gets you better, but increases how people know you, right? It's that social proof. If they're seeing you put at work, seeing you have the clients, seeing you talk about it. And that's the other piece is make sure you're talking about what you're doing. But by doing the repetitions of this, you're gonna get better. And then people will look to you as the kind of the expert at that. Now what do you need to be able to achieve this, what I see is you really need a growth mindset, you need to not think, in the closed mindset way of, oh, well, I can't get any better, or I'm as good as I'm going to be, you really have to think I can get better. And I'm going to do so much more so that I can master this, right? So you can go wide in your expansive knowledge in your offerings, or you can go deeper, really deep into it into knowing, it into reading about it and to studying about, into practicing with it. And doing it over and over and over and over again, it reminds me of watching, I think it was called Chef's Table on Netflix. And there's this woman that spent I don't know what it was like eight years coming up with the best pizza dough in like where she lived in the United States, because she was trying to make it as good as the ones in Italy. Like it was crazy how how much work she put into master this. So she had lots of reps, and she got a really good reputation.

Diane Rolston:

And the last one is hard work is the price of admission. It's the unrequired work that gets you success. Everybody's working hard these days. Have you felt that? Have you felt that a lot of people are maybe doing what you're doing and a lot of people are putting out content or a lot of people are working or providing the same service or product that you have? And like all these people are doing this? Yeah, well, you've just entered the game. And that's the hard work piece, just the price of admission. Kevin Eastman says it's the required work that gets you to success. So what is unrequired in your industry? In the service that you provide? How will you stand out compared to your competitors, right? So not from a sports perspective, but in your life? Like what is the unrequired work to be the most amazing speaker, coach, whatever it may be that you are doing? Stick with that like thought for a moment? What is the required work? What would have you stand out? And then on the flip side of that, what would be going above and beyond? What's something that no one else is doing? What's the innovation in your industry? or in your product? in your services that will help you not only stand out, but get a larger market share, because people are going to see how you are the best because you're doing it at this top notch stage.

Diane Rolston:

So those are the three mic drop moments that I heard from Kevin Eastman. This time I've seen him before, inspiring speaker funny, super humble, super knowledgeable. So I'll just repeat them one more time. And spend a little bit of time maybe like two minutes putting on the clock two minutes on each one, kind of what are your thoughts on it? And then after that, pick one that you're going to implement. So is it remind yourself there's more inside of you and that capability gap? Is it that you get your reputation through your repetitions? or is it hard work is the present mission? So it's the unrequired work that gets you success? I'm curious, let me know, post a comment.
